Assessments

The Keystone Education Center Charter School uses a variety of assessment, including diagnostic, formative, and summative, to monitor student learning and adjust programs and instructional practice. As a school with a high level of learner diversity in the classroom, the multiple assessments and data sets serve as a primary indicator for identifying and addressing student learning needs and providing a common thread to our data-rich culture that informs teaching and learning.

Students at the charter school are assessed yearly in the PSSA and the course ending Keystone exams according to the spring and winter testing windows set forth by the PDE which serves as a summative assessment. In addition, all ELA and Math students in grades 7-12 will receive formative/progress monitoring through STAR 360 assessments that will serve as an indicator of growth over time in a scheduled course. The STAR 360 assessments will also serve as a state benchmark assessment and benchmarking goals will correlate to the student projections for proficiency on state assessments. In addition to the STAR 360 assessments, all students in an ELA, Math, and Science course will be assessed three times with the CDT as a diagnostic assessment. The CDT data will correlate to proficiency standards set forth in the PSSA and Keystone exams. Much like the STAR 360 assessment, the CDT will provide specific enrichment points for the student to focus on for success in the grade or course level concept. Additional assessments include CBA, ASVAB, PSAT, and Perceptual assessments pertaining to student learning, and school climate and culture.
